The Lighting of the Advent Candle
The Christ Candle
Leader: Dear God, we have made our way these last four weeks getting ready for this night. We have paused to reflect on our relationship with you and with those around us.
People: And the Angels of heaven shout for joy!
Leader: We have lit the candle of hope, which causes us to remember that we are not left alone; indeed, you remain our constant companion!
People: And the Angels of heaven shout for joy!
Leader: We have lit the candle of peace, asking you to bring forth your peaceful Spirit upon this world and us. Help us to remember that peace is not only how we feel, it marks the way we live our lives with you and others.
People: And the Angels of heaven shout for joy!
Leader: We have also lit the candles of joy and love. These candles remind us of your deep love for us and the joy we experience as a result of that love.
People: And the Angels of heaven shout for joy!
Leader: Tonight we light the Christ candle. Tonight we remember that you are here with us. Tonight we remember that you humbled yourself to become a person just like us. In the humiliation, you identified with us and our condition that we might have life abundant.
People: And the Angels of heaven shout for joy!
Leader: As we light this Christ candle, light the flame in our hearts through the power of your Spirit. Tonight, may we take the hope, peace, love and joy that you share with us in the Baby Jesus and carry it to the people in the world where we live.
People: And the Angels of heaven shout for joy!

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever! Amen.
